Zygomatic Implants

At Harley Street Implant Centre we specialise in a variety of dental implants including simple tooth implants through to zygomatic implants.

What are zygomatic dental implants?

Zygomatic dental implants are an advanced type of implant designed for individuals with severe bone loss in the upper jaw, particularly in the posterior maxilla. Unlike traditional implants that are anchored in the jawbone, these implants are anchored in the zygomatic bone (upper cheek / eye socket), providing a stable and effective solution in situations where there is insufficient residual bone to support conventional implant procedures.

The zygomatic implant procedure

During your initial consultation, our experienced dental team will assess your oral health, discuss your treatment goals, and determine if zygomatic dental implants are the right solution for you. To accurately plan the implant placement, advanced imaging techniques such as 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) are utilized. This allows for precise evaluation of the bone structure.

1. Imaging & planning

Following your CBCT scan, a personalised treatment plan is created. This plan outlines the specifics of the zygomatic implant procedure, including the number of implants needed and the design of the dental restoration

2. Implant Placement

The procedure involves placing implants into the zygomatic bone, which is denser and provides a stable foundation even in cases of severe bone loss. The surgery is often performed under local anaesthesia.

3. Temporary Restoration

In some cases, a temporary dental restoration can be attached to the implants immediately after surgery, allowing for immediate function and aesthetics while the final restoration is being crafted

4. Final Restoration

Once the implants have fully integrated with the bone, a custom-designed dental restoration, which could include crowns, bridges, or a full set of teeth, is securely attached to provide a fully functional and aesthetically pleasing result.

Who can we help?

  • Individuals with significant bone loss in the upper jaw.

  • Those seeking a stable solution for full-arch restorations.

  • Individuals with a desire for immediate restoration.

Benefits of Zygomatic Implants

1. Effective Solution for Severe Bone Loss

Dental implants look and feel like your natural teeth. They are designed to seamlessly integrate with your existing teeth, providing a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing smile.

2. Reduced Need for Bone Grafting

Unlike traditional implants that may require bone grafting procedures, these implants utilise the existing zygomatic bone, minimising the need for additional interventions.

3. Immediate Restoration

In many cases, these advanced implants allow for immediate attachment of a temporary dental restoration, providing immediate aesthetics and function.

4. Enhanced Stability

The anchoring of the implants in the sturdy zygomatic bone provides exceptional stability, ensuring long-term success.

Frequently Asked Questions

Patients are usually provided with local anaesthesia during the zygomatic implant procedure to minimise discomfort. At the Harley Street Implant Centre we also have the ability to provide sedation services to those who experience anxiety or dental phobia

The recovery period after zygomatic implant surgery varies but generally involves some minor swelling, discomfort, and small amounts of bleeding for a few days. You should follow a soft diet and avoid exercising too intensely in the recovery period.

With proper care and maintenance, zygomatic dental implants can last for many years, providing a stable foundation for dental prostheses and restoring function and aesthetics.
